How Prayer Times in Kew Gardens Change Through the Year

The sun runs Kew Gardens's prayer clock, and it never keeps the same hours for long. Fajr reaches its earliest point of 2026 on 12 Jun 2026, at 3:44 AM, and its latest on 31 Oct 2026, at 6:08 AM: a swing of 2 hours 24 minutes between the two. A timetable printed in winter is out of date by summer. The swing is wide because Kew Gardens sits at 40.7 degrees north, far enough from the equator for the seasons to move the sun's path a long way.

The evening moves even more than the morning. The earliest Maghrib of the year in Kew Gardens is 4:28 PM on 02 Dec 2026; the latest is 8:31 PM on 25 Jun 2026, a shift of 4 hours 3 minutes. On the longest day, 21 Jun 2026, sunset holds until 8:30 PM; on the shortest day, 21 Dec 2026, it comes at 4:31 PM.

For anyone fasting outside Ramadan, such as the Monday and Thursday fasts or the white days each month, the longest fast of 2026 in Kew Gardens runs 16 hours 46 minutes on 19 Jun 2026, from Fajr at 3:44 AM to Maghrib at 8:30 PM. The shortest fast is 10 hours 37 minutes on 21 Dec 2026. Solar noon moves too: Dhuhr ranges from 11:39 AM in one part of the year to 1:06 PM in another, following the equation of time. Measured against the other 218 cities and neighbourhoods we track, that longest fast ranks 58 of 218.

How Each Prayer Time Is Calculated in Kew Gardens

Why do the times on this page move a little every day? Because each of the five prayers begins at a set position of the sun. PrayerTimesUSA works out the Kew Gardens schedule with the ISNA method used across most of North America: Fajr and Isha at 15 degrees of sun depression, Asr by the standard shadow rule, with the Hanafi Asr in the method selector above. The Hijri date today in Kew Gardens is 23 Jumādá al-ūlá 1448 (03 Nov 2026).

Fajr (5:11 AM today)

Fajr is the dawn prayer, and its time begins at true dawn, the first horizontal light in the east. Today in Kew Gardens that is 5:11 AM. Pray it before sunrise (6:28 AM); after sunrise it counts as qada (missed). Through the year in Kew Gardens, dawn moves between 3:44 AM and 6:08 AM, so the Fajr alarm needs resetting with the seasons.

Dhuhr (11:39 AM today)

Dhuhr begins just after the sun passes its highest point and starts to descend. Clock noon and solar noon rarely match, because Kew Gardens sits inside the America/New_York zone rather than on its meridian, so Dhuhr today is 11:39 AM. On Fridays, Jummah replaces Dhuhr.

Asr (2:27 PM today)

Asr begins when an object's shadow equals its height beyond the noon shadow. That standard rule (Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali) gives 2:27 PM in Kew Gardens today. The Hanafi rule waits until the shadow is twice the height, which falls roughly 45 to 65 minutes later; use the calculation method selector at the top of this page to view Hanafi Asr. Finish Asr before the sun turns yellow and weak near the horizon.

Maghrib (4:49 PM today)

Maghrib's window opens at sunset, the instant the sun's disc drops fully out of sight: 4:49 PM today in Kew Gardens. For someone fasting, this is iftar, and the Sunnah is to break the fast at once, with dates or water, before praying.

Isha (6:06 PM today) and the Last Third of the Night

When the red twilight has gone from the west, Isha begins: 6:06 PM tonight in Kew Gardens. The night that follows is measured from Maghrib to Fajr; its last third, after Islamic midnight, is the Tahajjud time. Use the Tahajjud calculator to find tonight's last third in Kew Gardens.

Friday Jummah and Mosques in Kew Gardens, New York

Every Friday, Jummah replaces Dhuhr, and it is the largest weekly gathering of Muslims in Kew Gardens. The verified mosque below serves Kew Gardens, with its address, headed by Masjid Quadria at 84-20 129th St, Kew Gardens, NY 11415. Each mosque sets its own khutbah time inside the Dhuhr window (Dhuhr today is 11:39 AM), so check the mosque's own notice board or website before you go, and arrive early: Friday parking fills fast.

Beyond Friday, expect daily congregational prayers, children's Quran classes and taraweeh in Ramadan at these centers. Mosque not listed? Send us the details and we will add it with its address and Jummah time.

Finding the Qibla Direction in Kew Gardens (58.60° North-East)

Prayer is valid only when faced toward the Kaaba in Mecca, and from Kew Gardens the shortest path over the Earth's surface, the great-circle route, points 58.60° north-east from true north. The bearing is calculated from Kew Gardens's coordinates (40.7° N, 73.8° W) to the Kaaba (21.4225° N, 39.8262° E). At about 6396 miles (10294 km), that puts Kew Gardens among the closer American places to Mecca. It surprises many people that the direction is north-east rather than south-east: from North America, the shortest line to Mecca crosses the North Atlantic, not the Pacific.

To face the qibla at home or at work in Kew Gardens, open the Qibla Compass on your phone, calibrate it with a slow figure-eight motion, and keep it away from metal furniture and electrical equipment that pull the needle. In a mosque, the mihrab already marks the direction.

Daylight Saving Time in New York: The Two Jump Days

Kew Gardens moves its clocks twice a year, and the prayer timetable jumps with them. Daylight saving begins on 08 Mar 2026: Fajr leaps from 5:05 AM to 6:03 AM in one night, a shift of just under an hour, and Maghrib follows, from 5:53 PM to 6:55 PM. On 01 Nov 2026 the clocks fall back, and Fajr returns from 6:08 AM to 5:09 AM. Mosques in Kew Gardens reset their iqamah boards on the same weekends. This page always follows the America/New_York time in force, so the times you see are already adjusted.
