Dua for Breaking Fast (Iftar)

ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ وَثَبَتَ الأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ
Dhahabadh-dhama'u wabtallatil-'urooqu, wa thabatal-ajru inshaa'Allah.
"The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills."
Sunan Abi Dawud 2357

Spiritual Benefits

This authentic dua shifts the focus from the physical relief of eating to the spiritual reward of completing the fast. It is a moment where supplications are highly accepted by Allah.

When Should I Say This Dua?

Say this dua immediately after taking the first sip of water or eating the first date to break your fast.

Proper Etiquette (Sunnah)

Break your fast promptly when the Maghrib Adhan is called. It is Sunnah to break it with odd numbers of fresh or dry dates, or water.
